Position Summary:

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Des Moines (www.standrewsdsm.org) seeks a part- time music director to be a key leader in a vibrant, collaborative, and creative liturgical community. The music director plans and selects music in coordination with the priest and Worship Team; provides worship music leadership on Sundays at 10:00 and holidays, including piano, organ, and potentially other accompaniment for hymns and service music, as well as instrumental offerings; works with musicians from within and outside the parish to offer various types of music in cooperation with the music director (vocal solos, guitar-led songs, call & response, a cappella, African drums, Gospel, spirituals, contemporary Christian music, etc.); organizes, plans and directs a small choir on occasion; and perhaps leads and assists with creative worship and liturgical arts efforts. The music director should have a B.M. or B.A. in Music or equivalent experience; a minimum of 1-3 years of experience as a musician in a church setting; piano & organ skills for choral and congregational singing; ability to select hymns and other music appropriate to the season, Bible readings, and abilities and preferences of the congregation; choral direction experience; and a flexible approach to work. Familiarity with Episcopal/Anglican, Lutheran or Roman Catholic liturgy is preferred.

Position Summary:

Sacred Heart Catholic Church has an opening for a full-time Director of Music. The successful applicant will work as a vital part of the parish staff team to bring the parish vision of ‘Inviting Everyone to Passionately Live the Gospel’ to realization, specifically through the work of sacred music. Tasks include coordinating music to enhance the liturgical services of the parish, including selecting music, playing the organ and piano for liturgies, directing choirs, and coordinating cantors and accompanists. Qualified applicants will have a minimum of a two‐ year post‐secondary degree in a relative field or related job experience, with a bachelor degree preferred.

About the Church:

Sacred Heart Catholic Church is a beautiful church, and the parish has invested in a new pipe organ installed in late 2018. The parish enjoys a variety of music and has supported both children and adult choirs. Aberdeen is home to a Catholic K-12 school system and a Catholic university.
